XXXTentacion is once again looking towards a more positive movement despite the flurry of negative headlines that follow him as he has teamed up with the Miami Children’s Initiative to launch an event series that will ultimately go toward benefitting the local youth in the Miami neighborhood of Liberty City.
While we’ve been exposed to a more emotional and pensive X through the evolution of his sound as heard on his most recent ? album, this new move serves as an opportunity in which he practices what he preaches in helping to create a better environment for kids growing up in the area.
"I understand what it feels like to struggle as a kid growing up with absolutely nothing,” says X, born Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy. “I hope I can share my experiences and explain that education along with pursuing your talents are the only ways out. I also want the kids to know that their immediate surrounding does not have to dictate their future".
X, who grew up in Lauderhill, about 20 miles north of Liberty City, recognizes his efforts as a means of helping others avoid the same mistakes that have often eclipsed his musical career. "I've made some mistakes, but I've learned a lot. Now, I'm very passionate about working with the staff at MCI and inspiring others to stay on the right path and find their talents."
Last year, XXXTentacion directed his efforts toward domestic violence while claims of his violence against women continued to mount. He pledged to donate $100,000 to domestic violence prevention programs and even planned an anti-rape event during Miami’s Art Basel week. Although the event never actualized, X promised fans a free concert to make up for it.
