New details have emerged regarding the 2016 "execution style" murder of former NFL linebacker, Robert Eddin, who was found dead in the basement of a Detroit home along with another victim, Ricardo McFarlin.
According to The Detroit News, three alleged drug dealers were charged in federal court Thursday with the murders of Eddin and McFarlin.
34-year old Michael DeAngelo Griffin of Birmingham, Alabama, Clifton Dennis Epps, 30, of Amory, Mississippi, and Mariano Lozoya Garcia, 47, of Brownsville, Texas face up to life in prison if convicted of murder, as well as drug and weapons charges listed in the six-count indictment, according to The Detroit News.
The three men reportedly traveled from Alabama to Detroit on a mission to kill Eddins and McFarlin during a time when the trio was dealing cocaine and heroin, according to the indictment.
“We hope to bring justice for the families of the deceased men and dismantle all organizations that spread these deadly poisons in our neighborhoods,” U.S. Attorney Matthew Schneider said in a statement.
“The murders of Eddin and McFarlin is just another example of how violence is intertwined with drug trafficking,” Timothy Plancon, special agent in charge of the Detroit field office of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, said in a statement.
Eddin, who had played one game for the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted rookie in 2011, and McFarlin died of multiple gun shot wounds, including shots to the back of their heads. They were discovered by Eddin's father on December 20, 2016 in the basement of a home formerly owned by Robert's grandmother.
