Nike testing "NFC" technology on new Air Force 1 NikeConnect QS.

Prior to the start of the NBA season, Nike launched their brand new "NikeConnect" jerseys, featuring innovative digital technology that gives NikePlus members and NBA fans access to exclusive product, customized content, and other experiences through the NikeConnect logo on their jersey’s jock tag.

Now, Nike is bringing the NikeConnect tech to sneaker releases, starting with the NYC-exclusive Air Force 1 NikeConnect QS.

According to Digital Trends, "the new AF1 NikeConnect QS NYC sneakers will come with an NFC (near-field communication) chip embedded under a NikeConnect logo on the heel of the sneaker. By using the NikeConnect app on a phone, you can tap your phone on the sensor and gain access to exclusive content and Nike events in New York City, as well as an opportunity to purchase other popular Nike kicks."

Sole Collector reports that subscribers will gain access to a new monthly release method known as "The Choice" which allows users to purchase one of two limited-edition shoes based on their own choosing. Because this new concept is in its testing stage, only select NikePlus members in New York City will receive invitations to purchase a pair of AF1 NikeConnect QS NYC sneakers via Nike’s SNKRS app later this month, but this could pave the way for a new trend in highly popular sneaker releases.
