A shape-shifting R&B track from the rising Brampton artist

Brampton songwriter TOBi has returned with a guitar-driven R&B jam called "January December." Starting off as a drumless arrangement, the song is lifted up by some programmed drums, which pull it in different directions throughout. TOBi's funky delivery is reminiscent of Anderson .Paak or Chance The Rapper, occupying a space that is equally melodic and rhythmic. At no point are his vocals predictable however, as he gracefully and unexpectedly slips into falsetto at the midway point.

The singer's captivating style has already earned him a placement on HBO's hit show Insecure, which has become a place of musical discovery, particularly within R&B. "Hidden Fences," a reference to the confusion between Hidden Figures and Fences by a few white attendees of last year's Oscars, which he described as a song that juxtaposed “the theme of gentrification against a funky melody."

TOBi is expected to release a new project in the near future. Stay tuned for more from him this year.

Quotable Lyrics:
December is for lovers
Come around me
Goddess of the summers
Winters under covers
Now we getting colder
