“No mother should have to go through this."

Shaquille O'Neal has agreed to pay for the funeral of 13-year old Malachi Hemphill who accidentally shot and killed himself while recording an instagram live video late last week.

According to 11 Alive, Shaq called the family after hearing of the tragedy and then paid a visit to the boy's home where he offered to pay for any expenses.

"We just broke down and started crying because Malachi didn’t have any insurance," Bankston [Malachi's godmother] said. "We wasn’t prepared to bury him this young. We didn’t have insurance for him. So to have that from Shaquille O’Neal it was a blessing and very touching, and we appreciate everything he do for the community."

In a statement to 11 Alive, Shaq said,

“No mother should have to go through this."

“I can only imagine the pain that she and all of Malachi’s family must be feeling. I just wanted to do what I could to help them at such a terrible time.”

Shaq has a home in the Metro Atlanta area and has been helping out families in need in the area for years mostly under the radar, without any public praise.
