Joey Bada$$ & Nyck Caution Have Big Plans For 2016
Joey Bada$$ & Nyck Caution
Pro Era homies Joey Bada$$ and Nyck Caution chilled in the studio with us to discuss the evolution of Pro Era and the crew’s plans for 2016. The group started with just a crew rapping every day in a cipher, and they have carried that competitive mentality into the larger rap game. Joey teases a number of projects coming this year, including Nyck Caution, CJ Fly and a group project that is still under wraps. Nyck’s project is coming “real, real soon.”
Joey Bada$$ Gives His "Life Lessons"
Joey Bada$$ sat down with Jen DeLeon to talk some “Life Lessons” that drive the Pro Era leader’s decisions in life. He also ate an apple (golden delicious is his favorite). Lesson #1: Control your expectations. Practice acceptance. Lesson #2: Don’t take things personally.
Watch The Entire Yams Day Show
Last night marked the inaugural Yams Day concert/party/memorial in New York City, and it was lit (more on that later). If you weren’t able to attend the show and missed the live stream last night, your in luck. Yahoo and Live Nation have blessed us with an archived recording of the show.
Nyck Caution & Kirk Knight Freestyle On Statik Selektah's Shade 45 Show
Nyck Caution & Kirk Knight
"Fuck all that pre-recorded shit! Let's do a real freestyle right here!"
Nyck Caution "Church" Video
We’re happy to premiere the official video for Nyck Caution’s “Church.” Pro Era affiliate’s track stays true to the clique’s old school sound, with multiple verses of impressive, stripped-down lyricism over Slauson Malone’s energetic production. The video itself shows Nyck trying to live his life as a pizza delivery boy before being kidnapped by some truly demonic looking dudes. The song (and video) switches up at this point, although we won’t reveal what the change is.
Nyck Caution Feat. Statik Selektah "Proceed With Caution" Freestyle
Nyck Caution Feat. Statik Selektah
Nyck Caution doesn't need a reason to spit bars over some classic instrumentals. Today he hits us with the premiere of a little Jackin 4 Beats freestyle video he shot with Pro Era's frequent collaborator/advocate, Statik Selektah. Statik picked out a bunch of beats from the '90s and early 2000s for Nyck to flow over, creating a radio-like freestyle segment just 'cause. It's obvious to see how Nyck fits into the Pro Era crew after listening to this, and he's positioning to be the next up, on the heels of Kirk Knight and CJ Fly, while Joey Bada$$ continues to lead the pack.
On The Come Up: CJ Fly
We're making our way through the Pro Era members for our On The Come Up video series, catching each rapper as they are on their way up. After enlisting Kirk Knight, next up we have CJ Fly. The New York native takes us through his childhood, which found him relocating from Flatbush to BedStuy, as well as the influences his parents' nationalities had on him. He reveals he's actually more of reggae connoisseur then he is hip-hop.
On The Come Up: Kirk Knight
Kirk Knight is probably going to be the next rapper from the Pro Era collective to break, so best start paying attention. The New York native and friend of Joey Bada$$ stopped by our office to partake in the On The Come Up series, and took us through his start in the rap game, and discovering hip-hop to begin with, how he got into producing and more.
Pro Era's Kirk Knight & Smokers Club Pres. Jonny Shipes Give Us Their 4/20 Essentials
With 4/20 right around the corner, it's time to ask some of the game's most legendary smokers how they'll be spending their favorite holiday. First up is Pro Era's Kirk Knight, one of NY's most exciting young voices (and Pro Era's in-house producer). Some call it old-fashioned, but Knight keeps it classic with papers, Backwoods, and Dutchies--no dabs, thank you very much. Kirk once tried wax with Wiz Khalifa--"that shit hit my whole soul," and he's never going back.
CinematicTV's SXSW Recap Video
We're now a few weeks removed from the madness that was SXSW 2015, but if you're feeling nostalgic (and craving some bud), CinematicTV's got you covered with their recap of all the Smoker's Club events that went down this year. Check out the smoke-clouded video above. In it, we see artists as varied as The Diplomats, Pro Era, Lil Herb and Mick Jenkins enjoying some green together, as well as rocking a variety of shows throughout the week. Blunts, bongs, bowls and dabs are puffed, with the Smoker's Club really making good on their name over the course of this short video.
Joey Bada$$ "B4DAMONEY" Tour Ep. 4
Brass bands are a time-honored tradition in New Orleans. In addition to the Crescent City being consistently cited as the birthplace of jazz and blues, funerals in the city are famous for being accompanied by horn-toting processions, and you can't walk down the streets downtown without encountering someone playing a brass instrument after a few blocks. While on tour in NOLA, Joey Bada$$ got the great opportunity to perform onstage with a brass band.
Joey Bada$$ "B4DAMONEY" Tour Ep. 3
If you didn't catch Joey Bada$$ and Pro Era while they were on their "B4DAMONEY" tour (and even if you did), here's your chance to get a behind-the-scenes look. In the third episode of their vlog, the crew hits Vancouver, Portland, Austin, Ventura, San Diego, and Santa Ana, CA, on the last leg of their nation-wide tour. Watch Pro Era dump out their weed and get searched at the Canada border, head-dive into seas of screaming fans, and pay a tribute to deceased crew member, Capital Steeze.
Joey Bada$$ "B4DAMONEY" Tour Ep. 2
Joey Bada$$ and the Pro Era crew is keeping us afloat on everything that goes down on Joey's "B4DAMONEY" tour with vlogs. Today we're happy to premiere episode two from the series, following up episode one here. As we tend to get with vlogs, we see a lot of footage from recent shows, and get a look at what happens when Pro Era aren't on stage-- chilling in the tour bus, listening to music, and more.
Pro Era "Hail Razor" Video
Back in May, Pro Era teamed up with Scion to release the dope, unfortunately-censored EP The Shift, and today they link back up for a video for EP track "Hail Razor."
CJ Fly Feat. Joey Bada$$ "Sup Preme" Video
CJ Fly Feat. Joey Bada$$
Pro Era's next up, CJ Fly, returns to his debut mixtape Thee Way Eye See It from last year for the official music video for "Sup Preme." We saw the behind-the-scenes last week, and now Complex has released the full clip.
Kirk Knight Feat. Dyemond Lewis "Extortion" Video
Kirk Knight Feat. Dyemond Lewis
Scion A/V presents this new set of visuals from the Pro Era collective. Kirk Knight and Dyemond Lewis teamed up for the record "Extortion" off Pro Era's The Shift EP, and today the song comes to life with direction from Jessica Lehrman. The visual was shot at night and thus it's pretty dark for the most part, with splashes of color and light coming from the backdrops overlaid on top of their locations, including a starry galaxy.
Pro Era Freestyles On Hot 97
New York collective Pro Era are no strangers to NY radio station Hot 97. They paid a visit to the station to see DJ Enuff and while there the group spit a freestyle for Hot 97's "The Hot Box." The freestyle is lengthy, clocking in at twenty minutes. The crew's many members, including Joey Bada$$, CJ Fly, A La Sole, Dessy Hinds, Nyck Caution and Kirk Knight each spitting a solid amount.
CJ Fly "Eyetalian Frenchip" Video
CJ Fly, who seems to have a penchant for spelling things phonetically, has dropped a new visual for one of his Thee Way Eye I See It mixtape cuts, "Eyetalian Frenchip." CJ was promoting the visual with some cool movie-inspired poster artwork earlier this week, as he was dubbing this visual a "short film."
SMTH Feat. Capital Steez "Last Straw" Video
SMTH Feat. Capital STEEZ
Pro Era lost a valuable member to its group when the young and insanely talented Capital Steez tragically took his own life, leaving his all-too-few haunting verses behind in his wake. Brooklyn-based rapper SMH scored a verse with young Steez before his passing and has released a video for the track, which partly serves to honor the late rapper.
CJ Fly "Q&A" Video
CJ Fly returns today with a new visual from his debut effort, "Thee Way Eye See It," the melodic "Q&A" which actually finds CJ singing and rapping. The Pro Era crew is prepping a new project "SECC$ TAP.E VOL 2" for February 14th. The visual finds CJ serenading a lady, from school to the streets to a show.Behold CJ Fly "Q&A" Video, a new offering from CJ Fly, which was released on Tuesday, January 28th, 2014. CJ Fly's rap artistry continues to improve with every release, something which is most definitely evidenced on CJ Fly "Q&A" Video.
