South Korea vs Mexico

South Korea 1-2 Mexico Final Time.

Mexico carried their momentum from an earthquake-inducing performance on Day One, to their fixture against two-time Asian Cup champs South Korea. A resilient Korean side fought to the very end, chipping away a goal in stoppage time, but it wasn't enough to a overcome the two goal cushion Mexico carried into the final quarter.

Mexico dominated possession throughout the match, striking first blood in the 26th minute from the penalty area, when Carlos Vela cooly converted his spot kick. Mexico's ball control kept the South Korean side pinned to their half of the pitch until tactical changes took effect at the intermission. Unfortunately Mexico regained momentum right away, at the onset of the 2nd half.

At the 66th minute Hirving Lozano, the hero in Mexico's win against Germany, dribbled half the length of the field with the ball at his feet, before dishing off to Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez who awkwardly volleyed the ball into a well defended net after switching to his "better foot." Chicharito's first goal in the competition was the insurance marker his team eventually needed to vanquish South Korea.

The win puts Mexico in the driver's seat heading into their final match in the Group Stage. With a win today against Germany, Sweden will tie Mexico for top spot in Group F, depending on goal differential. As of now, Mexico look set to advance as the number one seed, barring a miracle.
