HNHH PREMIERE: Jeff Chery lets loose a cold-hearted dose of melodic raps on "C'est La Vie."

Jeff Chery is a Haitian-born Atlanta-based rapper who makes use of auto-tune to produce a trap-inspired sound that's both smooth and painful. Yesterday, he dropped off the video to "Family," the most recent single off his upcoming mixtape, Mufasa's Way, which drops on Monday (July 11). Today, he's given us one more exclusive: "C'est La Vie," a track that won't be on the tape but is still a must-listen for those who enjoy the dark, immersive realm in which Chery's talents are at their best. "C'est La Vie" begins with Chery speaking in his native Creole; the translation reads, "In Haiti I was born, Léogâne, Haiti...this is my life now...Jeff Chery is the name, you already know, salute."

He then goes into his naturally deep and resonant drawl, settling on a slow, hypnotic flow that makes his trap visions feel especially haunting once they start to sink in. He uses the necessary antidotes to ease the pain of his lifestyle, and his raps, too, have a narcotic effect upon the listener. It's intoxicating amid all the ugliness. C'est la vie...

"C'est La Vie" is produced by SlayterTracks. Check back with us on Monday for Mufasa's Way

Quotable Lyrics

Remember the days I had no food
High off the shrooms and some toadstool
Robbin' people, goin' old school
Had to be sick with no cold flu
