Janelle Monae returns today with a new cover of David Bowie's record "Heroes." This happens to be the second cover we've heard from Monae in recent times.
The song, which is available to cop on iTunes, was commissioned by Pepsi for their new campaign, "Now Is What You Make It." Janelle gives the record a slightly updated feel while still keeping intact the '70s vibe of it. An interactive video for the track has already been shot in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and features cameos from famous soccer players.
Monae spoke to Rolling Stone about Bowie and the song, saying, "Bowie is part of my musical DNA in so many ways. And ‘Heroes’ is one of my favorite Bowie songs. When you love your favorite song, you want to keep some of the beautiful qualities of the original, but we brought Atlanta in the drums and wanted them to be thick and hit hard."
