The authentic Toronto sound is hard to find these days, with artists all over the planet trying desperately to emulate the 6side sonics that put the city on the map. On close investigation, weaving through singles and artists and drab, we find every so often a vocalist whose local sound is rooted from the inside looking out, rather than the other way around.
Toronto's Grant Chris is that artist, and we've been very impressed lately with the layered, atmospheric singles he's been cranking out as of late. His training is clearly very solid, as he's an alumni of The Remix Project, the same music program that produced Toronto legends such as WondaGurl. His new single "More Times" is a tragically catchy track from the perspective of a young man who's seen too much, and has no choice but to laugh it off.
