A highlight from the surprise-released "No News Is Good News."

7 years after his solo debut, Phonte surprised fans with his sophomore album No News Is Good News Friday. The project features only a couple of guest appearances, one of which being Freddie Gibbs, who shows up on the highlight "Change Of Mind." The track finds Phonte singing all of his parts, providing his own backing vocals on a crisp rap-soul record. Meanwhile, Freddie comes in nimble as ever, slipping into a slick double time that gone as quickly as it appears. If you're a fan of either artist, it's definitely worth a listen.

Gibbs released his comeback album You Only Live 2wice last March. He's currently working on Bandana, a collaborative project with Madib that will serve as the official follow-up to the duo's celebrated Pinata album. “I’m working on Bandana right now,” Gibbs told Zane Lowe in November. “It’s actually almost done. I think we’re back in the mixing process right now, but it’s definitely coming soon. I can’t tell y’all when we’re ‘gon drop it, but we’re just gon’ hit y’all out the blue.”

Quotable Lyrics:
Heavy clouds, thunder rolling
'Cause we don't see the same things
So if you need a change of mind
And if you need another way
Release you from this pain of mine
And you can have a new day.
