Black Milk's one of the most talented and innovative producers in the game. From his collaborative efforts to his solo projects, his production credits speak for itself. The Detroit native recently dropped off his album FEVER towards the end of February which served as his first solo project in four years. He recently swung by our offices to break down the creation process behind one of the highlights off the project, "But I Can Be."
Black Milk came through to break down how he made FEVER highlight, "But I Can Be." He revealed that the melody of the song came from one of his favorite Parliament records so he used that and flipped it into the beat.
"I was going through my Spotify playlist while I'm sitting there with the guys and you know, I'm like, 'yo, let's try to fuck with this." He explained, "I think this was actually a Parliament record that I had -- like one of my favorite Parliament joints -- and the melody that they were singing in, I was like 'Yo, let's play that melody.' And that's what we did and turned it into something... We had find one little melody, take it and expand on it and turn it into something else."
