Although his last two projects were sparse on features, Curren$y's newest tape has guests from Wiz Khalifa, Jadakiss, Juicy J, Young Roddy and more. The combination of feature rappers and chilled out beats give this mixtape some extra life.
This week we see a new chart-topper arrive, the New York rapper who takes on that southern style, A$AP Rocky. Rocky's debut album, Long.Live.A$AP did surprisingly well. We see albums leak all the time-- usually it's just a week prior to the album's release though. In Rocky's case, we saw it leak a month early.
This week we got some new Ab-Soul and JMSN, actually our first real taste of the duo working together, and it was quite well-received.
This week on Charts Don’t Lie, R&B artists who infuse their music with hip hop collaborations and sounds continue to rule, however things are about to change as A$AP Rocky’s studio debut is projected to top the Billboard 200 next week. In the interim, we see the holdovers from 2012 selling solid with some of the best albums of the year still appearing on the charts.
This week we saw a comeback from Juelz Santana, which seems to be going over pretty well, my personal favorite is definitely the Banks feature (so far). Future also dropped his F.B.G. crew tape today, which as per usual, has people divided with equal amounts hate & love. I guess an auto-tuned rapper isolates people like that. You either hate it or love it.
We saw a brief hiatus of Charts Don't Lie over the holiday break, but that doesn't mean sales slowed down, in fact, it appears to have been the opposite. Over the holiday season, many artists saw a rise on the charts as more copies were sold of their respective albums. So this week, you'll see artists featured that probably haven't appeared on Charts for a while.
Whatup homeboys and homegirls, Underrated Audio has been on a bit of a hiatus, although you probably didn't notice. Mainly it was because it was the holidays and I was chilling in the Holy Land (Israel). I listened to some Hebrew rap while over there, but it just wasn't the same 'cause I couldn't understand what the fuck anyone was saying, which is obviously like 90% of enjoying a rap song.
HNHH Exclusive: Hot 97 Christmas Extravaganza at Webster Hall with Nicki Minaj Dec 27, 2012 at 08:24pm 1 View
The night started off as any other night would with a full out dance party on the second floor of Webster Hall. There, fans got their fill at one of their three bars and danced to the tunes of Nicki Minaj and her Young Money cohorts. Eager to see their favorite MC, fans were dressed up as Nicki Minaj from their eyelashes to their shoes.
With the holidays in full swing, shopping and spending is at an annual high, and it’s semi-ironic that a Jesus titled album heads up our charts this week. The numbers are not massive, and we will have to keep an eye on sales in the coming weeks, closer to actual Christmas, and right after when people are using the gift cards that gift givers are so fond of giving. We
Well guys, I’ve been pretty sick recently, but I guess it’s that time of year where colds are going around. So I definitely had the Monday blues yesterday, but then Tuesday rolled around, and Tuesday means it’s practically Wednesday which is practically the middle of the week, which is almost Thursday which is pretty
This week we see Wiz Khalifa’s O.N.I.F.C. debut at #2, just as his last album, Rolling Papers did. However, the numbers don’t exactly add up-- O.N.I.F.C. sold less than Rolling Papers. While Rolling Papers may have been considered a commercial success, according to die-hard TGOD fans, it was far cry from what they knew and loved about Wiz. O.N.I.F.C.
This week is pretty big on the music-front, we got Big Boi and Game’s album both out today, and both are equally dope and deserve multiple listens. With those LPs taking up much of my spare listening time, the rest is relegated to Sir Michael Rocks’ new shit (a sample of which is seen below) and various other singles (also seen below). Enjoy. Vado- The Awards (Prod. araabMUZIK)
Perhaps Snoop made a poor career choice by switching from hip hop to reggae. If he truly wanted to move units he should consider an R&B persona. Rhythm and Blues singers have been performing mightily on these charts as of late, but this week they took over fully. Only one “Hip Hop” album managed to move any significant
Home to one of the game’s biggest stars and several acclaimed risers, Toronto is finally emerging as the hip hop force it’s spent over two decades trying to become. Until recently, the city’s place on the world stage was tenuous. As North America’s fourth largest market, Toronto has produced talented and original
I don't got much to say, but since this is underrated type ish, you guys should all peep DJ Dahi's new instrumental mixtape, Toys 2.0. Dope for rappers, and the average listener alike, cop it here. And on an equally random note, I would really like some new Lloyd Banks in my life so I really hope he finishes those two mixtapes he's working on, like, yesterday.Sir Michael
This week we saw pop star Rihanna, who also has one foot in the urban-sphere, rise to the top of the charts with her album Unapologetic. The LP was extremely pushed in all media markets, and her #RihannaPlane launched it into the internet stratosphere.
It's almost December and that's some crazy shit. I've kind of been in a music slum lately, nothing that has dropped recently has realllllyy grabbed me (I'm talking mixtape-wise, Joe Budden definitely got a few listens but it's not on repeat). So I guess singles will have to be on rotation for now.
Another week, another great showing from R&B artists on the sales charts. Drake’s boy and fellow Toronto artist The Weeknd managed to nab the top spot here this week, and he did it all with only dropping three original tracks. Look for Nicki Minaj to follow suit when her Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded - The Re Up drops,
We're in mid-November now and it's almost Thanksgiving for all our U.S. residents, so we know everyone's gunna be eating some good and get pretty lazy (aka full) afterwards. Here's some tracks to pass the time during your Thanksgiving dinner. Play them for your parents, grandparents, cousins, siblings, neighbours etc..whoever is at your dinner table! 'Cause who doesn't
This week we see three r'n'b singers are charting on Charts Don't Lie. On top of this, hip-hop is also keeping itself near the top half of the charts, with help from Kendrick Lamar and Meek Mill. With Nicki Minaj and Rihanna both dropping big albums next week, it doesn't seem like hip-hop will be leaving the charts any time soon. It's always impressive to see a
Last week with the success of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, we asked if independent artists' marketing strategy would be the new wave and replace the major labels on the charts. Their album The Heist saw a steep decline in sales, and might have topped out early. In what is one of the slowest week in Hip Hop/R&B sales of recent months, we get a semi-surprising name at the #1 spot.
This week as everyone is all-consumed by Kendrick Lamar's debut album good kid, m.A.A.d city, if you ever wanna step back from the hype surrounding it and put on something a little different I've got you covered. But good kid, m.A.A.d city is also a wise decision. DEEzo- Deck Feat. Dizzy Wright Many people probably only clicked this
HNHH continues to tackle the issue of sales in the hip-hop world. This week we had two new-comers top the charts, as well as an old head make an appearance. While Macklemore & Ryan Lewis perform the best this week, it's becoming more and more obvious that major labels may slowly be heading the way of the tall T, as independent labels manage to do it just as big. Not
There was a lapse in UA last week due to me being sick and not being in the mood to do it. But this week we're back at it, giving you the tracks that HNHH posted
Pattern recognition: utilizing data to classify the present and better predict the future. For those of you following the charts week in and week out pattern recognition is a discipline worth employing. On an elementary level it reveals the fact that big names sell, female fans buy, and strong singles provide additional reach. However, an increasingly analytical
