We all know that rappers often get a bad rep with the press. Accusations of criminal activity, encouraging violence, or just plain bad behavior are common for hip hop artists. Selfless and generous acts by hip hop stars seldom get the coverage or attention they deserve.
Don't get me wrong, I love Hip Hop. Like, I really love Hip Hop. Eat it, breathe it, sleep it, kind of thing. But just like anything else, there's always improvements to be made. If we're simply satisfied with the genre just as it is, we'll get complacent, and the quality will suffer.
Now that July has officially been taken over by the 1017 July Take Over, we’ve been left with a total of six mixtapes, one collaborative album and one studio album that Gucci Mane has released this year so far. (Trap God 3 is scheduled for September 13th). For comparison’s sake, Kanye West and Drake have each released 0 albums so far this year.
Brooklyn-born Anthony Cruz isn't one of the 10 greatest rappers of all time. He hasn't released a platinum record and most of his accolades are due to a relationship with Nas. However, most critics who know their stuff will tell you that AZ is vastly underrated, and even albums like Illmatic would have suffered had he never picked up the mic.
After his recent split with Puff Daddy’s Bad Boy Records and Interscope on March 19, King Los has stepped it up quickly and released his latest mixtape, Zero Gravity II. He had first signed with the label back in 2005.
Eminem found his way back to #1 on the Billboard 200, after spending a week at #2. The rapper sold the same amount that some rappers do opening week (if not more) and he's in his third week on shelves with MMLP2.
We know that The Weeknd is not considered hip hop, but you can't escape Kiss Land as a great production piece. The Weeknd is known to be one of the new faces of R&B and Drake's go-to guy for an R&B feature.
Expectations are high for both Drake's "Would You Like A Tour" and Kanye West's "Yeezus" tour, which kick off this weekend, so we've decided to take a look back at some of the most iconic hip hop tours in history.
Battle rap is quickly growing as a culture. What was almost completely relegated to street corners and Youtube a few years ago has garnered national recognition, more tv programming, Pay-Per-View events, and other attention of the mainstream media. Hip Hop icons like Eminem and Snoop Dogg have put on events for the battle scene and at this rate things can only continue to expand.
This week we don't have many new entries to speak of, save for Sage The Gemini's Remember Me. Depending on the numbers Smoke DZA's new album Dream.ZONE.Achieve did, we may or may not see it pop up on Charts Don't Lie next week, though. This week remains fairly unexciting, as Pharrell manages to climb up the charts while Rick Ross descends, and Pharrell picks up pace sales-wise too.
There are certain albums that every hip-hop head should have in their collection, and without a doubt these fifteen LPs are among them. These artists have created masterpieces that have contributed to the legacy of hip hop. This is a hard feat to do with a debut effort alone, but it's safe to say these LPs have had a major influence, if not changed the game for good.

Valentine's Day is right around the corner, and if you left your card shopping to last minute (cause really, who doesn't?), we've rounded up some hip-hop-themed Valentine's Day cards for you and your girl/boy.
Two years ago, Jay-Z and Kanye West joined forces and crowned themselves the kings of rap. After an extensive worldwide Watch The Throne tour, the two went back to their separate careers to work on solo projects. Although they both welcomed a brand new baby in the last year and a half, they couldn’t be in more different places musically.
Few rappers out can say they have been rapping since the age of eight and actually mean it. Dizzy Wright has been performing long before he even hit puberty. His mother, who penned his lyrics when he was just starting out, was a concert promoter and exposed him to the industry while other children his age were playing video games and learning their multiplication times table.
