As part of an art project called "Everything She Says Means Everything" a pack of more than 100 nude women wielding big mirrors, and a photographer in tow, crashed the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio yesterday morning.
The artists behind the project, Spencer Tunick, has said the installation is meant to reflect "the knowledge and wisdom of progressive women and the concept of 'Mother Nature' into and onto the convention center, cityscape and horizon of Cleveland." In simpler terms, it was a nude protest at the RNC.
The women who took part in the shoot stood in patterned lines, holding circular mirrors above their heads while Tunick snapped photos from atop a ladder.
"I told my husband this morning, 'I hope I don't get killed by protestors,'" says Darlene English, 42. "It was definitely a concern but I felt like this was a very important statement to make, especially with my kids. I've got a 7-year-old daughter, a 4-year-old boy and a 9-year-old boy and I wanted them to know that there are times when it's important for them to stand up. I have the belief that [the GOP] is very anti-women, so I wanted to stand up and make a statement that it is unacceptable in 2016."
According to Esquire, this was Tunick's rallying cry to the women just as they kicked off the project early on Sunday morning across from the Quicken Loans Arena:
"The Republican party has given an excuse to hate. We have daughters and we want them to grow up in a society where they have equal rights for women. The sun is coming up. Now, when I say three, let's get naked!"
