On Saturday night, the 2018 NBA dunk contest was held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, where some of the NBA’s best dunkers were on display to show off their hops. This year’s participants consisted of Victor Oladipo, Larry Nance Jr., Dennis Smith Jr & Donovan Mitchell, however it didn’t quite live up to expectations as many thought it would. While it ended pretty well with Donovan Mitchell & Larry Nance throwing down some electric dunks in the finals, things definitely didn't started out like they’d hope.

In fact, Pacers guard Victor Oladipo, didn't even compete his dunk in any of his 3 attempts in the first round. He tried making up for it by putting on the Black Panther mask for his second dunk, but after missing the first attempt the prop lost its buzz, and Victor unfortunately disappointed fans overall.

To close out the show, Donovan Mitchell won by copying Vince Carter’s famous “its over” dunk in 2000, where he goes nearly 360 (it was actually about 320 though) and dunks it going away from the hoop. Many people thought winning the dunk contest on something that’s already been done before was also pretty weak. Larry Nance got stronger as the night went on as well, but it never fully recovered from the dismal start.

The overall consensus on twitter is that the NBA dunk contest is losing its flair. From the multiple attempts per dunk to the props and lack of stars, fans had plenty to say about the underwhelming dunk contest Saturday night.
