Torii Wolf is gearing up to drop her debut album Flow Riiot this Friday. The singer has been steadily dropping music ahead of her upcoming project. While she's definitely not a rapper, Tori's been working with some of the most fire producers in the game. She's currently under the wing of DJ Premier and he's produced the majority of the project. While she taps in a few other producers as well, they're all known for their work in hip hop. Today, she releases the Mike Zombie produced single "Pain Killer."
On "Pain Killer", Mike Zombie provides her a minimalist beat that allows her voice and her lyrics to stand-out over the production. Torii Wolf uses drugs as a metaphor throughout the song. While talking about the cruel cycle of addiction, she parallels that with the way an abusive relationship can be like. Addiction brings people back to their substance of choice in order to chase that feeling, regardless if it doesn't feel good anymore. Torii uses that idea to build the concept of the song. Torii's vivid lyrics really help paint a picture in your head and her voice over top the production create a zone that you're bound to get lost in.
The single also came with an official video. The video for "Pain Killer" shows Torii in an abandoned vandalized bathroom that's covered in graffiti tags. She's seen in the corner of the bathroom while suffering from withdrawal symptoms as clouds of smoke surround her.
It seems like this may be the last little snippet we receive before her album drops this Friday. While she's dropped some pretty solid singles ahead of it's release, it's looking like we're going to receive a great debut album from Torii.
