History was made last night at the NFL Draft as brothers Terrell and Tremaine Edmunds, both of whom attended Virginia Tech, were selected in the first round.
Tremaine, a linebacker, was selected 16th overall by the Buffalo Bills while his older brother, a safety, was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 28th overall pick. It marked the first time in NFL history that two brothers were taken in the first round. Additionally, it was just the second time in the common draft era that Virginia Tech had two players picked in the first round, according to ESPN. The last time was in 2004, when DeAngelo Hall was selected 8th by the Atlanta Falcons and running back Kevin Jones went 30th to Detroit.
"It's a blessing for my family overall," said Terrell Edmunds, according to ESPN. "It didn't matter where [Tremaine] went and I went.
"I'm thankful to everyone for supporting us all the way."
"Man, it was great," Tremaine Edmunds said of the draft process with his brother. "Definitely to see my other brother get drafted tonight, it was a big time relief for my whole family. I know everybody's excited and I'm excited. It's a long time coming, but we can finally say that we made it."
Terrell added that he was not expecting to be taken in the first round. "I was surprised, honestly" to be picked, he said, per ESPN. "I'm ready. I'm telling you I'm ready."
According to ESPN, the boys' father, Ferrell, made the Pro Bowl twice during his six-year NFL career as a tight end for the Miami Dolphins and Seattle Seahawks.
