Kyrie Irving is officially a member of the Boston Celtics. The Cavs and Celtics finally completed the trade last night after Boston agreed to send a 2020 second round pick in addition to the original pieces which include, Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and the Brooklyn Nets' 2018 unprotected first round pick.
After the news was officially official, Kyrie Irving thanks the Cavaliers and their fans, and said that there would be "nothing but love" for the organization. In a video posted to the video platform Tout, Kyrie says he is truly grateful and thankful for the accomplishments he and his teammates achieved in his six years in Cleveland.
Part of Kyrie's comments in the video include (per USA Today),
“It’s hard to make videos like this because you understand the magnitude of decisions that you make in your life can affect a lot of people all at once,” he said. “And when you get to that point and you understand that the best intentions for you and to be in your truth and find out what you really want to do in your life and how you accomplish it.
“That moment comes and you take full advantage of it and there are no other ulterior reasons other than being happy and wanting to be somewhere where you feel like it’s an environment that’s conducive for you maximizing your potential as a human being.”
“I spent part of my life and my years in the NBA in such a great environment in Cleveland,” he said. “… I still can’t believe just the feats that we reached in a 6-year span and I’m truly grateful and I’m thankful.”
Additionally, Kyrie shared a photo on instagram with a caption that summed up his feelings following the trade to Boston.
"My love extends way beyond the court I have for Cleveland and it will always be a place thats special because of the great people and experiences. The Ups and downs, we stand and fight no matter what the circumstances are, and that's what being in Cleveland embodies, it is all Love and a whole lotta pride."
Kyrie and the new-look Boston Celtics will return to Cleveland for the first game of the NBA season on Tuesday, October 17th.
