Kali Uchis' "After The Storm" budges just a lil'.

The legendary Pete Rock is one of the last living producers to draw upon his MPC beat maker. Now that it comes replete with an internal drive, Pete Rock can his signature snare to places previously off-limits. The Pete Remix became synonymous with improving the original record, similar to the way Bad Boy went about their business.

Pete Rock's remix of Kali Uchis' "After The Storm" featuring Tyler The Creator & Bootsy Collins gives the song a more grounded feel, far from the original speaking point. Pete Rock does away with the old Hawaiian feel in his deconstruction of BADBADNOTGOOD's beat. The Pete Rock remix is so threadbare it barely contains any binding value connecting it to the original. The producer dubs his voice, making gurgling sounds his stated effect or emotional grammar if you will. In my mind, there isn't enough going on here to differentiate his version from the original, call me a hard-ass all you want.

Quotable Lyrics:

Ah, whatever goes around
Eventually comes back to you
So you gotta be careful, baby
And look both ways
Before you cross my mind

-Bootsy Collins
