Jacksonville Jaguars' Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey seems to have an opinion about every player in the NFL, and he isn't afraid of voicing his thoughts when it comes to his peers. Earlier this month he ripped several starting QBs, including Matt Ryan, Ben Roethlisberger and Joe Flacco.
In a cover story by ESPN's Mina Kimes today, Ramsey spoke about some of the games most prolific pass-catchers, including Pittsburgh Steelers star Antonio Brown, Houston Texans Pro-Bowler DeAndre Hopkins, and New England Patriots great Rob Gronkowski.
Kimes writes:
"He's a fan of Antonio Brown -- "He's easily the best receiver in the NFL. Easily," he says -- and DeAndre Hopkins. "He's had freaking 100 quarterbacks -- all trash," he says. "I could be his quarterback. I could literally be his quarterback.""
While Ramsey had praise for Brown and Hopkins, he tells Kimes that "great" isn't an accurate portrayal of the Pats' tight end.
"I don't think Gronk's good," Ramsey says. "Let me say -- I don't think Gronk is as great as people think he is."
"Any time Gronk has been matched up with a corner, he's had a very bad game -- and that corner has had a very good game," Ramsey said.
When the Patriots and Jaguars squared off in the AFC Championship game last season, Gronk had just one catch before leaving with a concussion. Danny Amendola, now a member of the Miami Dolphins, reeled in seven catches for 84 yards and two fourth-quarter touchdowns in that game, as the Patriots defeated the Jags 24-20 to advance to Super Bowl LII.
In regards to Amendola, Ramsey says, "He just got a brand-new contract and he is terrible. People think he's so great. No, he's not. Tom [Brady] made him look good. Tom could take me as a receiver and I'd be a first-team All-Pro."
