Christmas may have come and went, but we're still getting gifts. Today DJ Eclipse has unearthed a rare freestyle from a young Eminem and Royce Da 5'9". This went down back in 1998, right before the release of Em's The Slim Shady LP. For Eclipse's Halftime Show in '98, Em and fellow Detroit native appeared on the show, where Em did a brief interview touting two upcoming singles ("Brain Damage" and "Just Don't Give A Fuck"), before barrelling into a freestyle session (not without introducing us to Royce first!).
This is pretty dope, especially for all fans who are missing the old Em (and the old Em's voice, so that should be like, everyone). Enjoy! Read the message from DJ Eclipse below, and skip to the 1:27 mark to hear the freestyle).
Merry Christmas everyone! Here goes another Halftime show from ’98 with guests Eminem and Royce Da 5’9″ (85:53). Short interview right into the freestyle session (if only cats today were as hungry as the 90s generation). As usual, Riz sets off the show lovely and then half way through I get on to finish up. Always good listening to the mic breaks to see what was going on during that time (i.e. Tramps shows, Fat Beats in-stores, new mixer…thanks Fat Beats!) (52:25). So much good music played. Last mic break at 147:39. Enjoy.
What a wonderful day, I should go outside and play
Ain't no need to go sit inside the house and hibernate
Hi Renee! I was just about to toss a live grenade in your driveway
And drive away, are you afraid of a blade made of razor with AIDs blood
Dripping from it, rippin your stomach up from the waist up?
You talk a lot of ish, but you was never ill though
I'm sick enough to beat you to death with a feather pillow
Tipped some cows just for a joke and laugh
Jumped up, choked a giraffe, snapped his neck and broke it in half
