Coca-Cola opts to air commercial before the big game.

We're still more than a week away from Super Bowl LIII, but there has already been plenty of discussion about the commercials that will, and will not, be airing during the big game on February 3.

Budweiser has already revealed their big spot, which reveals that their beer is now brewed with 100% renewable electricity from wind power, while another ad, promoting the use of medical marijuana, has been shut down by CBS.

The latest Super Bowl LIII commercial news concerns beverage giant Coca-Cola and their decision to air a 60-second ad before, not during, the game.

According to reports, Coca-Cola's pre-game ad runs on themes of diversity and inclusion, and is inspired by a 1975 quote from Andy Warhol: “We all have different hearts and hands; heads holding various views. Don’t you see? Different is beautiful. And, together is beautiful, too.”

Stuart Kronauge, senior vice president of marketing for Coca-Cola North America and president of its sparking beverages business unit, released the following statement regarding the ad (H/T Boston Herald).

“We have a long history of using the country’s biggest advertising stage to share a message of unity and positivity, especially at times when our nation feels divided,” he said in a statement. “This year, we decided to place our ad just before the national anthem as Americans come together in their living rooms to remind everyone that ‘together is beautiful.”

The upcoming game between the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams will mark the first time in 11 years that Coca-Cola opted not to run a commercial during the Super Bowl, but they'll still have plenty of eyes on their 60-second spot just before the National Anthem.
