Black Atlass sets off his new album with an emotional introduction.

With a come-up firmly on the rise, Montreal-born Black Atlass has emerged to bestow a new album, Pain & Pleasure, upon the masses. Kicking off the project is introductory, tone-setting cut "Something Real," which serves a worthy introduction for anybody seeking to understand what the young artist is truly about.

Elements continue to stack, from mournful, classic-rock-inspired guitar wails, to arpeggiated synthersizers, while Black Atlass drives home an emotional proposal. "Baby lets take a ride," he sings on repeat, driving it home like a pagan mantra. In fact, the singer seems to have an impressive grasp on his toolkit, using his smooth falsetto to set an ambiance from the jump. As far as genres, Atlass draws from a variety of different sources, from hip-hop, to atmospheric indie, to electro, making for an amalgamation that's far from scattershot.

Quotable Lyrics

If I can be something, I won't be yours
Baby, don't love me, I'll just fuck it up
I'm comin' down heavy, better let go
I can be dangerous, too much for you
Yeah, what have I done? I still want your love
But I just can't have it, not in Hollywood
