A park in Brooklyn heights has just been named in honor of the late Beastie Boy Adam "MCA" Yauch.

Tomorrow marks the one year anniversary of the loss of Beastie Boy Adam "MCA" Yauch. The rapper, who lost his battle with cancer last year at the age of 47, was a beloved figure in the hip hop community and has been remembered in many tributes since his untimely passing. The late emcee has been honored once again, this time on behalf of his neighborhood, when a Brooklyn Heights park was given his name earlier today.

The park formerly known as Palmetto Playground is where a young Luuch learne to ride his bike, hang out with freinds, as well as begin to launch the Beastie Boys.“This is our neighborhood,” his mother Francis Yauch said. “Adam was 3 years old when we moved into State Street down the block and his whole life was Brooklyn. He loved Brooklyn.”

The naming ceremony took place today, and was attended by both Yauch's parents as well as one of the surviving members of the Beastie Boys, Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz.

Ad-Rock also spoke briefly on the newly named Adam Yauch Park. “I’d like to thank the New York Park Department and the people of Brooklyn for honoring my friend and brother and recognizing how cool it is to have an Adam Yauch Park for other crazy New York kids.”
