J.I.D. bodies a Dr. Dre & Eminem classic.

It's evident that Dreamville's J.I.D. has love for his fans. First, the lyricist officially uploaded his lost Para Tu mixtape, after it surfaced to critical acclaim. Now, J.I.D. is taking us back even further, uploading a throwback take on Eminem's breakout hit, "My Name Is." In the song's caption, J.I.D. writes "OG fans remember this," implying that this one was an older upload, that was taken down and subsequently reinstated last night. It's a good look for the rapper, who continues to prove he's one of the most down-to-earth young rhymers in the game.

As for the song itself, J.I.D. does Dre's beat justice, channeling his inner Slim Shady as he recounts an almost uncharacteristically violent revenge fantasy against white supremacist mass murderer Dylan Roof. Like the original, it's all rather cartoonish in the best possible way, and J.I.D. sounds like he's really having fun on this one. Not only is "My Name Is" an interesting glimpse into a rapper's past catalog, but also further proof that J.I.D. is one of the most versatile up-and-comers in the game.

Quotable Lyrics

Everywhere I go I take my gun even churches
Open carry in Georgia so save me a seat in churches
Fuck taking Dylan Roof to jail you should bring him to me and my n***as
On God, it won't be a homicide, we'll keep him alive
