Charles Oakley Files Civil Suit Against James Dolan, MSG

New York Knicks legend Charles Oakley has reportedly filed civil suit against Knicks owner James Dolan, Madison Square Garden and MSG Sports & Entertainment. According to Yaron Weitzman of Bleacher Report, there are 10 "causes of action" in the suit, with libel, slander, assault, battery and false imprisonment among the allegations.

The beloved former Knicks forward got into an altercation with MSG security during a game on February 8th and had to be physically removed from the court. He was later charged with two misdemeanors of assault, two misdemeanors of harassment and one misdemeanor of trespassing. After the incident took place, Dolan suggested that Oakley had an alcohol problem and anger management issues.

Oak recently accepted a deal that would dismiss all misdemeanor charges against him stemming from the arrest, under the condition that he stay out of trouble for six months and accept a one year ban from MSG.

According to TMZ, in his suit, filed in federal court in New York, Oakley claims James Dolan had it out for him from the moment he took over the team because Charles refused to "kiss the ring."

"Dolan constantly disrespected Mr. Oakley, refusing to make eye contact or shake his hand during meetings, denying the type of fan appreciation nights given to much less popular and successful members of the Knicks."

The suit also states that Dolan and MSG “discriminated against him based on the false perception that he is an alcoholic, all in a transparent attempt to denigrate his standing among Knicks fans."

“Mr. Oakley has never had a problem with excessive anger nor has he ever abused alcohol or any other drug,” the suit sates.
