Murs' plain, vivid storytelling style has been bringing fans back for over a decade, and his latest track "GBKW (God Bless Kanye West)" indicates that he still has fastball. The song uses three allegories of  humble young man whose life becomes threatened by gang violence to illustrate Murs' point that everyone has their own private struggle, including celebrities like Kanye West.

"We pray for each other and I believe in the power of prayer, but we could really use more mental health professionals in our community instead of mocking Kanye West," Murs explained in a press release. "He's having problems and he's having to work through it. He's like a football player playing hurt, to me."

"Hold your head, and always do your best," he advises.

K-R.O.K.-produced "GBKW" will appear on Murs' album Captain California, which drops on March 10.

Quotable Lyrics

He's running for his life
They fucked up thing is this week, it happened twice
This time, the esés, bald head and tattoos
Mad 'cause he dating their cousin and he's a black dude
Hopped in they Regal and chased him down Pico
He tried to hide in the crowd amongst them other people
High off sherm so they don't give a shit
He rolled down the window and emptied the whole clip
