This year, while continuing to make beats for the game's hottest rappers, ATL producer Sonny Digital has been making a concerted effort to showcase himself as an artist, with a mean flow to match his booming productions. He's not the only producer in Atlanta to pick up the mic, but his tracks have been among those to garner the most buzz, such as January's "On It." He's been teasing his new single on social media ever since he performed it at SXSW, thus generating serious anticipation, and boy, has he delivered today with the official release. "50 On My Wrist" is sounding like Sonny's hardest track yet.
Sonny holds on to the same steady flow for much of "50 On My Wrist," and though there's a good amount of repetition, there are also many instances of clean and effective punchlines. The flow is simple, though he skillfully remains in the pocket of his own beat throughout, never letting up on the adrenaline rush. It's a club essential from a man who's been a club staple in Atlanta for years. Only now is he starting to bring his raps into the mix, and the early results have been excellent.
