"I think I owe the fans and I owe myself that much."

Last month Paul Pierce officially announced that this upcoming season will be his last. The 39-year old veteran will be entering his 19th season in the NBA, his second straight with the Clippers in the city where he was raised.

However, Pierce's NBA career is rooted in Boston which is why he'll be retiring as a member of the Boston Celtics after this year. The 10-time All-Star spent his first 15 NBA seasons in Beantown and recently confirmed that he'll be going out in Celtics green.

On SiriusXM NBA Radio The Truth said:

“I would love to do that,” Pierce said. “I think I’ll always be remembered as a Celtic. I had all my glory days, all my prime was pretty much as a Boston Celtic. I think I owe the fans and I owe myself that much, just to be able to put that uniform on one more time and go out that way, say I retired a Boston Celtic.”

Pierce will sign a one-day contract with the Cs at the end of the season and his #34 jersey will likely be raised into the rafters at the Boston Garden sometime in the following season.
