Chance the Rapper and an all-star team of celebrities helped Get Schooled and 3000 Chicago public high school students celebrate the raising of $100,000 for six Chicago high schools and six Community Based Organizations which earned the most points in the "Get Connected Challenge."
Get Schooled, a non-profit organization launched by Bill and Melinda Gates, along with Viacom, teamed up with Internet Essentials and Chicago City of Learning for the "Get Schooled, Get Connected Challenge", a semester long contest which featured several quests and rewards set to motivate 13-19 year old students to prepare for college.
Quests included such tasks as preparing for college entrance exams, completing college applications and applying for financial aid. Students earned points for completing quests which lead to prizes such as laptops and gaming systems, but also added to totals for the student's school or Community Based Organization. More than 50,000 quests were completed. The top six schools and top six community based organizations split the $100,000 check provided by Internet Essentials. The money will be used to enhance computer labs, increase internet and WiFi access, as well as support digital literacy training.
As well as Chance, MTV's Sway, Christina Milian, and others came out to help the students celebrate the end of the challenge.
Chance is known and respected for his community work in Chicago. The young Chicagoan was awarded the "Outstanding Youth of the Year" award November of last year.
