Syd goes dolo on "Mood" off The Internet's new LP.

The middle stretch of The Internet's new album Hive Mind is Syd's personal playground. Songs like "Mood" really demonstrate how much the group's female falsetto has risen since her days as The Kyd, not only because she is exploring more adult subject matter, but because she's earned her rites of passage. The seamless transition from "Mood" to "Next Time/Humble Pie" is so seamless I'm tempted to blur the boundaries set by the group, and rename the whole passage "nice smelling flowers."

"Mood" doesn't feel forced or rootsy like some of the group's material in the past. In the lead up to Hive Mind's release it had seemed like Syd had faded into the background with other members of the group such as Steve Lacy taking up more space. But what you see here is Syd holding onto responsibility, no more no less, all the while taking the obvious steps in her development as an artist.

Quotable Lyrics:

Now that I got you all alone
Let's crack the wine, let's call a toast
Please have a seat, get comfortable
I'll try not to fuck up the flow (Nah)
Right where I want you
I'll check my posture, come at you proper, girl
Something about you
Climbed onto cloud nine, you on couch
Heart beatin' like..
