American Airlines has issued an apology to Memphis Hustle players Marquis Teague and Trahson Burrell, after the two men were accused of stealing blankets from a flight and kicked off the plane Sunday at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.
According to ESPN, Teague and Burrell were given blankets by two first class passengers as they headed to their seats, but a flight attendant accused them of stealing and forced them to get off the plane.
Afterward, Airline spokesman Joshua Freed said and airline manager apologized to the players and they later flew first class to Sioux Falls.
"We apologize for what occurred on this flight," Joshua Freed told Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated. "We take pride in bringing people together, and we know that on this flight we let some of our customers down. Our team at American, along with Envoy Air, is reviewing what happened and will be reaching out to [the two players and the assistant coach]."
According to ESPN.com, the flight was operated by Envoy Air, a subsidiary of American Airlines Group.
Teague, brother of Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Jeff Teague, was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 2012, after playing one season for Kentucky. He most recently played in the NBA during the 2013-14 season as a member of the Bulls and the Brooklyn Nets. Burrell played for the University of Memphis for two seasons before joining the G League.
