Washington Wizards All-Star point guard John Wall is going back to the University of Kentucky this summer to pursue his bachelor degree. Wall only spent one season at Kentucky before making the jump to the NBA, but he wants to fulfill the promise he made to his father, who passed away when he was eight.

The 27-year old point guard, who has a lifetime scholarship to Kentucky, told the Washington Post, “I’m going back to school this summer to get my business degree. “That’s what I’m focusing on. I promised my dad that.”

Wall says he doesn't have any specific plans for his business degree at the moment but he wants to be prepared for whatever comes after his basketball career.

“When our career is over, when we retire and the basketball stops bouncing, we still have to find something else to do,” Wall said. “Whether you want to be a general manager, a doctor, a businessman, whatever, you have to believe on everything you stand on. We’re more than athletes and the stuff that’s going on in our society and in this world, we have to speak on it. I think we have the right to say whatever we want.”

So far this season Wall is averaging 19.4 points, 9.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game, but he has not played since January 25th due to a knee procedure. The Wizards, 33-24, have gone 7-2 in his absence thus far which has them sitting in fourth place in the Eastern Conference.
