New Orleans Native and Jet Life signee Young Roddy blesses us with some bars.

You probably recognize Young Roddy from one of his many collaborations with fellow New Orleans native Curren$y, including an entire mixtape the two put out together Bales.

Don’t be fooled though, the Jet Life emcee can hold is own on a track solo. “Ill Brother” features Roddy rapping about lessons he’s learned from the people around him and his experiences.

Producer 9th Wonder puts together a wonderfully jazzy beat for this single, looping some harps and a juicy saxophone line over simple drums for a classic sound.

The song doesn’t seem to be attached to any project, so we’ll see if more songs pop up soon. If not, we’re more than happy to bump this one solo.

Quotable Lyrics

20 racks in my jeans / I wear my heart on my sleeve
she love it when she wit me / make it hard for her to leave
I tell her tale after tale about my trade-filled streets
and same with the pimp game / they tell me I’m a beast
like LB, Marshawn Lynch or Hercules
