15. QuESt (Tony Touch)
14. Joey Bada$$ (Tony Touch)
13. Tyler The Creator (LA Leakers)
12. Chris Webby (Statik Selektah)
11. Mick Jenkins (DJ Booth RapBox)
Sway had Ron Browz in studio showcasing some previously unheard instrumentals and put together an interesting cypher. Grafh, OnCue and Aaron Cohen all got 2 turns on Browz beats and for the most part it was all gold. They all needed just a bit more time, but there were still plenty of bars to be had.
8. Freddie Gibbs (Tim Westwood)
Cold blooded freestyle killa. Freddie was overseas and decided to stop by Westwood TV to hear Tim yell a lot, then spit something. Freddie's been just fine since his CTE days, putting in work on the independent tip and making waves with the help of people like Madlib and Statik Selektah. Who says you need a cosign with bars like Gangsta Gibbs?
7. Hopsin (Tim Westwood)
While the Funk Volume crew was across the pond, Hopsin stopped by Tim Westwood's crib to kick a freestyle. Though he's sometimes slept on at the national level, his wildly loyal fans would all agree he's one of the illest out, and this freestyle certainly helps to prove that.
6. Big KRIT (Sway In The Morning)
While on a radio run promoting his upcoming Cadillactica LP, the King Remembered In Time stopped by Shade 45 to chat with Sway. Sway caught him off guard with the instrumental, but you know he couldn't let KRIT leave without a freestyle. After some initial reluctance, he agreed to spit something off the top, and even went dry with it, further proving he's deserving of a place near the top of the next up.
5. Vince Staples (Sway In The Morning)
Native West Coaster Vince Staples stopped by Sway's Universe recently to promote his Hell Can Wait project. While he was there, Sway did us a favor and had Yung Vinny spit something right quick. Not everybody handles their own with Sway, but Staples did just fine, going straight off the dome with something special. Don't let anybody tell you hip-hop is dead while we have young cats like this one steady killing it in the game.
Chris Brown stopped by the LA Leakers show recently and they started playing Schoolboy Q's "Studio". The rest, as they say, is history. Breezy was feeling the beat straight from the rip and immediately went into his own rendition of the chorus before freestyling a whole verse. Hopefully all his troubles are behind him, because hip-hop as a whole is better off when Chris Brown is contributing to it, real talk.
3. Kendrick Lamar (Big Boy's Neighborhood)
To promote his new single, King Kendrick went on a radio run, and on his stop by Big Boy's Neighborhood in LA, he went off. He dropped a quick one over with the LA Leakers, but nothing like this monster. Not only did we get a lengthy freestyle from K.Dot here, but a pretty funny one from big Boy himself too. Until we get another single from his upcoming album, this is all we have... and that's ok with us.
2. Childish Gambino (Hot 97)
Childish Gambino aka Rap Game Spiderman stopped by to chat with Rosenberg in early September and dropped all kinds of knowledge. if you haven't watched the whole interview, make sure you do, there's a few gems in there. but for our purposes today, we're just focusing on the freestyle he kicked for one half of Juan Epstein. Over "Grinding My Whole Life" Yung Donny Glover spits a free for the ages and reminds us all why he's not only next, but now.
1. Big Sean (Cosmic Kev)
Big Sean's on the kind of run we don't see too often. Everything he touches turns to gold, or Aura Gold that is. From the set of 4 VERY HOTTTTT tracks he dropped last month, to the feature he laid down on Travi$ Scott's Days Before Rodeo, to his new romance with Ariana Grande, everything is coming up Sean Don these days. The other day, the Detroit Player showed up to Cosmic Kev's and went totally hammer time on a few beats including OG Maco's "U Guessed It". Album on the way, you heard him.
Also peep his LA Leakers Open Bar Freestyle from last week right hurr:
Check out Rostrum Records' Boaz's debut album "Intuition."
If you're on the East Coast like we are, you probably walked outside in the last few days and noticed something; it's fucking cold out. Where'd that come from? It feels like just yesterday we were riding around with our windows down bumping "Hot Nigga" remixes and enjoying our Summer. As the leaves start to turn different colors and our t-shirts start getting covered by our hoodies, we need something to warm us up. Nah, miss us with that pumpkin spice latte bullshit, how about some fire freestyles?
For this week's Monday Top 10, we're counting down the hottest freestyles of the Fall so far. Because Fall isn't technically over, we'll move the starting point up and just count everything from September and October. As usual, we'll rundown the 10 best, as well as a bunch that just missed the cut. Make sure you join the discussion by commenting with any we missed or got wrong (or right...lol jokes, that never happens). Also, hit us up on Facebook and Twitter with your feedback and suggestions.
