We were happy to host the release party for Siya's new mixtape, What Never Happened, this weekend, and we can tell you that the hype surrounding the tough rhyming Brooklyn emcee is real. One of the strongest tracks off the 13-track mixtape is the opener, "1997," produced by famed production team The Olympicks.

The track opens with some words from DJ Skee, but then we're quickly transported into Siya's world. Her bars are both are cold-hearted and inspirational. "1997" happens to be one of her softer records, and the highlight is her gentle singing on the hook. Though her content is usually street-oriented, she has the diversity to come up with all types of records.

If you haven't already, go download What Never Happened.

Quotable Lyrics

Ay, ay, you know how it go
When I was on the road I lost some n*ggas that I know
Fuckin' with the streets, you know n*ggas gon' hate
But nobody lovin' motherfuckers on the way up
Ay, we gon' get this money like it's '97
And we gon' hit them corners with the 9's ready
