Sevyn Streeter is one R&B's most underrated songwriters, and while her Call Me Crazy But.. EP didn't catapult her to superstardom the way it should've, her upcoming album, On The Verge, could do the trick. Before that, Sevyn will be giving us a digital only release, Shoulda Been There Part 1. While 13 tracks long, many of the songs are interlude's making it out to be more of an EP.
It should be a good primer for the album, and possibly one of multiple volumes. She's released a new song with current boyfriend B.o.B simultaneously with the release news, and it's a jam. Built off of a similarly minimal synth-line to CMCB's "nEXt," "Shoulda Been There" is a party record dressed as a ballad. It also features a deceptively technical vocal take from Streeter, which if not pulled off so effortlessly would be much more apparent.
Look out for the EP July 17th.
Before this go wrong
We should take a break
'Cause you feel like you know
You know everything
Before I go and say some things
I'm gon' regret to you
I'mma call my ladies
And tell them how you drove me crazy
