Two days ago, Kid Cudi dropped off "Love," a previously-unreleased song taken from the Satellite Flight sessions. It's also reminiscent of his older work in that it's built around the sample of a song by Ratatat, an instrumental duo that he collaborated with on two Man On The Moon tracks. This time, he flips their "Sunblocks" into a dope new product.
Samples Of The Week: March 4
Thus far, we've covered every single track Action Bronson's released from Mr. Wonderful on Samples Of the Week, but what can we say, the guy just happens to collaborate with some of the best producers around. His most recent offering, the Chance The Rapper-assisted "Baby Blue," was produced by pop mastermindMark Ronson, and he actually sampled from one of the year's best pop/rock albums. Forming the song's melodic backbone is "Bird Of Prey," a song by the remarkably talented singer/songwriter Natalie Prass. Her new self-titled album is a must-listen.
While its predecessors aren't anything to scoff at, "All Day" is almost unquestionably the strongest of Kanye West's new songs. It's also the wildest, speeding from minimal Coke Boys trap to string-led baroque rap to chaotic noise to... acoustic strums and whistles? Yes, the last portion of the track is the most jarring, despite being the softest part. Credit co-writer Paul McCartney, who nicks a sample from a track he previously composed with an irregular two-finger chord on an acoustic guitar. If Kanye can get a Beatle to sample himself, so help me god, he can do anything.
Bobby Shmurda & Rowdy Rebel Call In To HOT 97 From Jail
GS9's Bobby Shmurda and Rowdy Rebel called to talk to Ebro today.
Kid Cudi, Action Bronson and Kanye West all drop tracks containing dope samples.
After getting two big albums, Big Sean's Dark Sky Paradise and Chris Brown & Tyga's Fan Of A Fan: The Album, last week, this week has been all about the singles. Everyone from Ludacris to Juicy J to Wale seemed to drop off a new track, and so this edition of Samples Of The Week focuses on three of the best we've heard recently.
In the past three days, we've gotten a song unearthed from Kid Cudi's Satellite Flight sessions, part one of the musical contained in Action Bronson's upcoming album Mr. Wonderful and of course, "All Day," the second official single from Kanye West's So Help Me God.
