"My Buddy" serves as a gun metaphor on Rico Richie's new track, and while it's a metaphor that's been used before, and Rico also uses it to great effect. Opening with a dusty, child-sung sample, the record quickly changes pace into a pulverizing bass-driven beat from DJ Spinz, but just when you thought the intro was provided for contrast, it shows up again in the hook, as Rico delivers an effective call-and-response with the cut-up vocal. Much like "Poppin," the rapper turns a simple concept into something special, crafting an increasingly catchy chorus, as well as a collection of quotable lines ("My buddy got extensions just like Fetty Wap") in his deceptively melodic verses.
The song will appear on Richies upcoming project, Realest Story Vol. 3, which arrives in June.
