DJ Green Lantern takes a Nas track off 2008's "The N*gger Tape" and gives it a fresh rework.

Last Thursday, DJ Green Lantern dropped off a remastered exclusive of Jay Z's "The Game Is Mine," an unreleased collab circa 2004 on which Hov raps over a beat made by Lantern comprised of the sounds of a live tennis match. For this week's TBT, the New York DJ/producer is back with another newly polished treasure for the old-school heads, as he has remastered the Nas track "Cops Keep Firing," which originally appeared on 2008's The N*gger Tape

The song should prompt Nas fans to revisit the controversial mixtape, but it's fortunate to now have the CDQ of the nearly eight-year-old track, which comes without tags, shout-outs, and all the other DJ tricks that were par for the course during the mixtape era of the late '00s. It's immediately obvious that the message behind "Cops Keep Firing" is just as relevant -- perhaps more so -- today.

Quotable Lyrics

Jail bars open, but Huey told 'em
Let my brothers free with me
And slammed the jail bars closed then
I go then to say today
Where are those men?
