Mick Jenkins joins Statik Selektah on Shade 45 for a freestyle over Common's "The People."

In terms of pure, bar-for-bar lyricism, Mick Jenkins is surely one of the most impressive up-and-comers we've heard this year, with his The Water[s] tape wowing all of us over here at HNHH.

Yesterday, the Chicago MC paid a visit to Shade 45's NYC offices during Statik Selektah's program to kick a slick freestyle. Perhaps attempting to rouse some of Jenkins' inner Chicago kid, Selektah chose Common's "The People" beat (produced by Kanye West) for the kid to work his magic on. That did the trick, though we'd guess that Jenkins would sound this good on any type of beat. He's just that versatile.
