John Lee shares "The Come Up."

Opening with some deep vocal samples, John Lee's "The Come Up" sounds a little darker than your average "on my grind" song, with Lee providing a harrowing portrait of struggling to make it as a rapper. Luckily, his rapping is just as on-point as the production, which comes courtesy of ICDMAW.

The brief-but-powerful track is led by a shadowy piano line, a skittering beat and, eventually, some booming bells. A wordy man on the mic, Lee is a man of few words when it comes to describing himself:

"John Lee from North Carolina Age 20, Started Rapping In 10th Grade, Musical Influences: 2Pac, Kanye, Lil Wayne."

Quotable Lyrics

Should of went off the deep end
Wrapped my car, and got too drunk
And threw up
In the same weekend
