Captain Murphy
HOTTTTT
Adult Swim is rolling out 25 tracks in 25 weeks for their 2016 Singles Program. This week they release a track from Captain Murphy called "Crowned." Captain Murphy's alter ego Flying Lotus has had extensive collaborations Adult Swim over the course of his career. "Crowned" begins with some hot bassoon/oboe/double reed action. It is gothic and experimental, evoking the chaos of cars and semi-trucks swerving in a rainstorm. It fits nicely with the mood set by previously released 2016 Adult Swim singles by Earl Sweatshirt, Vince Staples, & Run the Jewels.

Smoke DZA
VERY HOTTTTT
Smoke DZA has made sure to recruit exclusively top-notch producers this year, as he's released a joint EP with Harry Fraud and has a joint album with the legend Pete Rock dropping this summer. Today, he's decided to look toward a more left-field producer in Flying Lotus, rapping over a few of the L.A. beatmaker's choice instrumentals for a three-in-one stream titled "Outside My Mind | 4-19-2026 | Petty Murphy."

Flying Lotus is always experimenting with his sound, most recently on his excellent 2014 album You’re Dead! We get a look at his creative process with the trio of tracks his released last night, which seem to be left on the cutting room floor from his last album. “NO Feeer Thunnderrrrcatt2010” features FlyLo’s frequent musical compatriot. Judging by the title, it’s possible this recording is older than 2014’s You’re Dead!

Talented producer Flying Lotus is always pushing the limits of his productions, most recently on his excellent 2014 album You’re Dead! Yesterday, FlyLo shared a trio of tracks with no further context, with two of them featuring bassist and frequent collaborator Thundercat. “You’re Dead! Haleys Line//thundercat” is one of the tracks featuring Thundercat.

As part of Star Wars Headspace project curated by Rick Rubin, producer extraordinaire Flying Lotus has created a glitchy instrumental called “R2 Where R U?” The title plays on a moment in “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope” where C-3PO calls out to R2D2. FlyLo cleverly uses a variety of R2D2 audio samples to construct the beat, but he uses them in a way that you wouldn’t necessarily know it was R2D2 without being told (except in a few obvious instances).

Flying Lotus, Shabazz Palaces & Thundercat Feat. George Clinton
HOTTTTT
If you're not familiar with the large catalog of work Flying Lotus and Thundercat have done together under their respective monikers, you've at least heard their contributions to Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly. The same can be said for funk legend George Clinton, who showed up on Lamar's "Wesley's Theory," alongside the two jazz experimentalists.

Thundercat
VERY HOTTTTT
After incorporating "Them Changes" into his live set for months, Thundercat dropped the studio edition of the Fly Lo-co-produced track today via the Brainfeeder Soundcloud page. "Them Changes" opens with what sounds like the drums from The Isley Brothers' "Footsteps In The Dark" which Ice Cube famously sampled on "Today Was A Good Day." And then Thundercat enters the fray with his virtuosic bass and macabre lyrics, making the track simultaneously dark and light-hearted and eternally groovy.

If you had the chance to catch Flying Lotus on his bonkers, afterlife-referencing 2014 "You're Dead!" tour, you' probably got the chance to hear some unreleased Kendrick Lamar vocals. Last night, FlyLo shared the full verse that he'd played throughout his tour, and now we've got it on today's song list for you.

Joey Bada$$
VERY HOTTTTT
After a successful debut, B4.Da.$$, at the beginning of the year, Joey Bada$$ has been relatively quiet. After hearing a track with Houston's Maxo Kream, we now get a leak of Joey's latest, "Perception Vs. Reality," which is produced by Pro Era crewmate Kirk Knight.

Flying Lotus' "You're Dead" did a good job of representing the many sides of the celebrated producer, digging deeper into the jazz, psychedelic, and rap influences he'd explored on previous releases. While he released an entire project under his Captain Murphy pseudonym (his hip-hop alter-ego), a rap verse had never actually appeared on a proper FlyLo album until his latest.

After delivering the serene, glossy track "Medication Meditation" with Krayzie Bone the other day, Flying Lotus decides to drop another track (albeit a very different-sounding one) from the new "Grand Theft Auto V" soundtrack. Masked oddball DOOM is the guest rapper this time, and "Masquatch" is the name of the track.

2014 has already seen zooted beatmaker Flying Lotus cross paths with the biggest rappers he's worked with in his career, namely Kendrick Lamar and Snoop Dogg, who both appeared on his recent, mind-blowing opus You're Dead! Now that he's scored some new levels of clout in the rap game, FlyLo's free to continue collaborating with living legends, and he does just that on "Medication Meditation," a track featured on the new r

VERY HOTTTTT
Earlier this week we got a radio rip of Flying Lotus' new collaboration with Kendrick Lamar "Never Catch Me", which didn't come as too much of a surprise as the producer had previously said that "Kendrick Lamar took all my beats." This particular beat is all over the place (that can be a good or bad thing, depending on your perspective), with a frenzy of piano keys and other instrumentation.

Super producer Flying Lotus is getting ready to release his new album, You’re Dead, on October 7th, but before he does, he’s got some promoting to do first. Tonight, he’s given the LA Leakers the green light to premiere his new single “Never Catch Me”, featuring fellow Cali native Kendrick Lamar.

VERY HOTTTTT
Bump SDS (Prod. By Flying Lotus), the latest cut from Mac Miller. It was released on Monday, April 22nd, 2013. Things are improving for Mac Miller with each new offering, and SDS (Prod. By Flying Lotus) is certainly no exception. It's a worthy addition to the Mac Miller's catalogue, which has seen much evolution as of late. We're definitely anticipating the next step.
