23 year-old Derin Falana sounds jaded beyond his ears on soulful new cut "These Days." Over a staccato groove, Falana reflects on the current state of affairs, throwing in some personal anecdotes and perspectives. The Ontario artist gets ample room to showcase both his singing and rapping abilities, switching seamlessly between the two over a futuristic beat. Despite hailing from the Great White North, the subtle vocoder work, wubbing bass, and g-funk style synth lines gives this track a bit of a West-Coast flavor.
Falana has also been keeping an audio journal, which he intends to drop along with this record.
Fuck you think I might be goin' through a phase
I ain't showin' up unless it pays
I can take a bottle to the face
Laryngitis fuckin' up the ways
Wrong God this shit wasn't in the plans
Can somebody tell me I'm the man?
