Fans of Fox's New York City cop sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine were devastated yesterday when Fox announced that the show would not be returning to the network for a sixth season.
While the series was never a ratings juggernaut, it was a critical darling with a devoted fan base, and the news of the show's cancellation came with an immediate outcry for another network to pick up the show. Thankfully, NBC has answered those calls, and have announced that they will be reviving the show for a 13-episode sixth season.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hulu and Netflix were both looked at as possible homes for the show, but both of them passes before NBC excitedly took the Andy Samberg and Terry Crews-starring show under their wing.
"Ever since we sold this show to Fox I’ve regretted letting it get away, and it’s high time it came back to its rightful home," said Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment. "Mike Schur, Dan Goor and Andy Samberg grew up on NBC and we’re all thrilled that one of the smartest, funniest and best-cast comedies in a long time will take its place in our comedy lineup. I speak for everyone at NBC, here’s to the Nine-Nine!"
