Stream Young God's New Beat Tape "...But He Who Causes Darkness"
Young God is one half of the San Francisco production duo Blue Sky Black Death, known for their production work alongside innovative underground rappers like Deniro Farrar and Nacho Picasso. Young God linked with Farrar for a joint mixtape, Cliff of Death 2, in summer 2015, and he's since been focusing on his solo instrumental work. Samples Of The Week: February 27
When hip-hop began, samples were all that DJs and producers had to construct instrumental tracks with. They'd dig through crates of vinyl trying to find isolated drum breaks, melodies or vocals that they could repurpose for use in hip-hop music. Today, sampling has become less common, but a choice sample can still push a track from lukewarm to hot faster than you can say "uh huh honey." This week, see who Cyhi the Prynce, Blue Sky Black Death and Chief Keef chose to sample in their recent releases, all of which you can find on HNHH.
