Last month Yasiin Bey (fka Mos Def) appeared on a track by indigenous Canadian trio A Tribe Called Red alongside Narcy and Black Bear. Today we have a video for the stomping “R.E.D.,” and it’s just as wild and impressive as the track.
The video follows Yasiin Bey’s troubles in South Africa, making commentary on the designation of “alien” and what it means to be foreign. Narcy, the second emcee on the track, directed the video, and said of the experience, “It was an absolute honor for my directorial debut to be for artists as important to the story of the world as A Tribe Called Red and Yasiin Bey. This time capsule and visual to R.E.D. is about one man finding himself, and reconnecting with Planet Earth.” Heady stuff.
