Without Wiley, grime wouldn't be as big as it these days. His influence transcended generations of grime and helped morph the genre into what it is today. Earlier this year, he dropped his album Godfather which was interpreted by his fan as his the final album of his career. That doesn't seem to be the case. With his passion for music still burning deep, he drops off his latest song "I Call The Shots" featuring JME as the first single off of his upcoming album Godfather II.
Wiley and JME link up on "I Call The Shots," an appropriate title considering Wiley's position in the grime scene. The single features minimal production inspired by UK garage. Wiley kicks in the first verse with his rapid flow and hard hitting punchlines, proving exactly why he's referred to as the "Godfather of Grime." He flexes his lyricism and his attitude throughout the whole track. On the hook, Wiley raps, "You know what? I call the shots/ I brought the vibe like I told you before/ Manna done lots." A perfect way to introduce his upcoming project and elaborate on his statement when he said it was his "last album of his career, in terms of proving anything," in his interview with Fader. JME pops up on the second verse and delivers a solid verse but that's to be expected.
With Godfather II on the way, it'll be another effort from Wiley that further establishes his OG status. The project is due for a February 16, 2018 release date so keep your eyes peeled on what he has coming next. It's definitely going to be another notable album to add to his already extensive catalog.
