Santigold prepares for a welcome return to the fold.

I still remember vibing to Santigold's "Lights Out" back when the "i" was an "o." Since then, the talented singer has underwent somewhat of a self-imposed hiatus, remaining relatively quiet since the release of her 99c album. Now, it would appear she's about to mount a comeback, and a surprise one at that. Taking to Zane Lowe's Beats 1 show to break the news, Santigold announced the release of a dancehall mixtape I Don’t Want: The Gold Fire Sessions, set to drop tonight at midnight. As an apertif, Santi shared the project's lead single "Run The Road," explaining a little bit about the song's raison d'etre.

"“Run the Road” was about touring and how it looks better from the outside," explains Santigold, breaking down the expected narrative with an insider's perspective. Still, she seems to be doing alright; at the very least, the struggle has given her material for her latest banger. Peace to Santigold, and we look forward to catching her surprise mixtape when it drops at midnight.

Quotable Lyrics

Got people talking that talk
Copy the rhyme but ain't in their walk
From outside looks like a circle
From on this side it seems like a wall
Rough ride, get me through it some way
Another long flight, make me earn the pay
